Hi everyone,

I’m facing a serious deliverability issue with Klaviyo — my emails are going to spam in Gmail, and the open rate for Gmail addresses has dropped dramatically in the last few days.

Here’s my setup:

  • My domain is hosted on GoDaddy

  • My website and store are on Shopify

  • I’m using Klaviyo for email marketing

  • I recently set up a dedicated sending subdomain: email.mydomaing.cl, and delegated it via NS records to Klaviyo (ns1.klaviyo.com, etc.)

  • I confirmed that the domain is “verified” in Klaviyo settings

However, Gmail is still flagging my emails. When I check the original message in Gmail, SPF and DKIM pass, but DMARC sometimes fails, and reputation seems to be suffering.

 Has anyone else faced this?

  • Do I need to set a DMARC record for the subdomain email.skinology.cl, or does Klaviyo manage it via the NS delegation?

  • Could having legacy DKIM records (Shopify, Mailchimp) on the root domain be hurting me?

Hey @almelnick, welcome to the community!

It seems like you’ve done all the right things, and the reason Klaviyo uses a subdomain is that it should isolate issues that may impact your root (or other subdomains).  Klaviyo cannot set your DMARC policies for you, even if you are using dynamic routing - so you’ll still want to do that on your DNS.  You can read about that here:

Also another tip, you can use third party tools like MXtoolbox to check all your settings.

Hi @almelnick !

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve seen seen a decrease in your deliverability to Gmail addresses. This could be for a number of reasons. Gmail has very strict regulations and they will place your emails in spam if your reputation is deemed untrustworthy. This could be due to high bounce rates for Gmail specifically, or a lower sender reputation in general.

Here is a guide on Email Deliverability Best Practices for Outlook and Gmail that may be helpful to review and reference: Gmail and Outlook deliverability best practices to implement right now . As always, you will want to make sure your sending campaigns to engaged segments to ensure that you’re only sending to people who have previously engaged with your content. This will also improve your overall deliverability which will lessen your chances of being flagged by inbox providers.

It also sounds like you recently set up a new subdomain, so it may be worth reaching out to our Support Team to ensure that all of your DNS records are set up correctly! To clarify, you will only need to DMARC record on your root domain, not your subdomain, so that shouldn’t be causing any issues.

I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any additional questions!
